Former tennis player Angelique Cauchy has revealed that she was raped almost 400 times by Andrew Gueddes, her former coach.

Gueddes is convicted of child rape and began training Cauchy in 1999, when she was 12 years old. In an interview with France Info, the former tennis player revealed that he raped her almost 200 times a year and even thought about suicide. The incident happened during a 15-day camp in La Baule in western France.

"I thought about killing myself many times," she said in her testimony in court.

"He raped me three times a day. The first night he asked me to go to his room and I didn't, then he came to mine. It was worse. I was in prison, I couldn't leave when I wanted to".

She further revealed that the chairman of the tennis club defended Gueddes because of winning titles for the club.

"It was known in the tennis world that his behavior with young girls was not right," added Cauchy.

Gueddes was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2021 for raping and sexually abusing four girls between the ages of 12 and 17. From the nightmare he lived, Cauchy remembers exactly how many steps separated their rooms, saying they were the 13 steps of terror. As a form of emotional blackmail, Gueddes had told her that he had AIDS, scaring her into thinking that she had contracted the disease since she was a child.

"I lived between the ages of 13 and 18 believing I had AIDS," she said.
