In this way, the government overturns one of the strongest promises against gambling and which was supported by the vast majority of Albanians. This government that closed the bets with the promise not to return them and to save the youth from the gambling addiction, the same government is bringing back gambling. This is what was declared just a few years ago.

But recently everything has changed and the reason for the return of gambling is that during the period from the legal closure of betting companies in Albania, a whole criminal world flourished with illegal online betting that was never closed.

The result was only that the state lost tax money while the underworld bosses got so rich that closing the bets worked for you. At the beginning of the first mandate of the socialists, the action to end the stupidity was undertaken by closing the gambling machines, and a few years later sports betting was also hit.

But a few months ago, a strong watering campaign was launched for the return of betting in different ways. Debates about the way to return are strong since the licensing of several online companies or the creation of a single company.

Criminalistics experts told Top Channel that even the new law that will enter into force on January 1, 2023 will not solve the problem of illegality.

Because crime bosses or illegal betting bosses who will not be able to get a license will continue to work illegally, competing with the profit coefficients of companies that will pay taxes. For the next fiscal year, the government expects to collect 17 million euros from betting alone./ TCH
