Under investigation for match fixing, the decision is made for Granit Xhaka
Written by SOT.COM.AL 20 Maj 2023
Granit Xhaka has been cleared of any charges of involvement in sports betting rigging following the yellow card he received in Arsenal's 4-1 win at Leeds 17 months ago.
The numerous investigations on this issue have been completed and the footballer of Albanian origin is found to be clean.
Britain's Gambling Commission and National Crime Agency investigated Xha?ka over a £52,000 bet placed that he would receive a yellow card in the final 10 minutes of a match played in December 2021.
Mikel Arteta's team was 3-0 when Xhaka was shown a yellow card by referee Andre Marriner for delaying the game. Xhaka was about 20 seconds late for receiving a free kick, which forced the referee to punish him with a yellow card.
Initially, Xhaka's connection to organized crime was suspected, but that case has now been dropped due to lack of evidence.
