Great loss for sport/ Athletics legend and Olympic gold medalist passes away

Athletics legend Dick Fosbury has passed away at the age of 76.

Fosbury revolutionized the high jump by becoming the first athlete to jump backwards, with the technique still used today and known globally as the "Fosbury flop".

His style of dancing gave him a huge advantage over his rivals at the 1968 Olympics, where he won the gold medal with a leap of 2.24 metres.

Four years later at the Munich Olympics, 28 of the 40 competitors used his style. Previously high jumpers had used a scissor technique, but Fosbury's innovation transformed the sport.

The world athletics legend passed away on Sunday after a battle with lymphoma.
