After competing in the 20km World Cup race in Ruka, Halfvarsson said he needed to go somewhere warm after freezing his penis.

According to Reuters, temperatures went as low as -15 degrees Celsius at the start of the race.

"My penis has frozen. Really", said the sportsman to the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

Adding: “Hell, I had to lay in there [the athletes' tent] for 10 minutes to warm it up. It hurts so much. It's terrible."

Halfvarsson, who has suffered the same injury before, joked: "It's lucky I'm going to be a father for the second time because it's going to be difficult in the future if I keep going like this."

Norway's Jan Thomas Jenssen topped the podium in Sunday's race, ahead of the Czech Republic's Michel Novák in second and team-mate Harald Østberg Amundsen in third. Halfvarsson was the first Swede to cross the line in 18th place.

Asked by Expressen if he could describe the feeling, Halfvarsson said: “No. Those who know, know. But a piece of advice from me. Stay away from it, because it is the worst thing you can experience.”
