How often do you close your eyes? Careful! The answer can be a sign of 7 health problems

How often do you close your eyes? Careful! The answer can be a sign of 7 health

Blinking frequency can reveal serious health problems, experts say.

On average, most adults close their eyes once every 3 to 5 seconds, which helps keep the eyes moist and clean.

In some cases, too much or too little pulse can signal a variety of health problems, from allergies and immune disorders to Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease

Some studies have found that the firing rate reflects the amount of dopamine in the brain. The less dopamine we have, the more we fixate on a subject and the less often we close our eyes.

People with Parkinson's disease don't have enough of the chemical dopamine in their brains because some of the nerve cells that make it have stopped working.

This can cause symptoms such as slower heartbeats and hand tremors. There are over 40 symptoms, but the main ones are slowness of movement and muscle stiffness. There are several different treatments, therapies and supports to help manage this condition.

Based disease

Less frequent blinking can also be a sign of Graves' disease (sometimes known as Graves' disease), an immune system disorder that leads to overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism).

The autoimmune condition increases the body's metabolic rate, leading to weight loss and a drop in energy levels. Other common signs of the disease are anxiety, tremors, sensitivity to heat and irregular heartbeat.

About a third of patients with Based disease also develop eye problems, known as thyroid eye disease. May cause swelling of the eyelids, retraction of the eyelids. This leads to less frequent blinking because the eyelids are too narrow.

However, not blinking enough can cause drying and damage to the cornea of ??the eye. In severe cases, it can cause scarring of the cornea due to the lack of protection. The disease cannot be cured, but is treated therapeutically or with surgery to remove all or part of the thyroid gland.

Stroke

Neurological diseases other than Parkinson's, such as stroke, can slow the normal blink rate. This is because the eyelid nerves, facial nerve or eyelid muscles may remain damaged.

A stroke is a life-threatening brain attack that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off – without blood, cells in your brain can be killed or damaged. Stroke symptoms include slurred speech, numbness, weakness, or paralysis of the face, arm, or leg.

Head injury

Slower blinking has also been linked to head injuries in athletes.

Sjogren's syndrome

On the other hand, frequent blinking can be a sign of fatigue when trying to perform a difficult task, such as driving while drowsy.

Excessive blinking can occur when your body is trying to compensate for dry eye disease, which can occur for several reasons.

One of these is Sjogren's syndrome – an autoimmune disease that causes widespread drying of parts of the body that produce fluids, such as tears and saliva.

Dry eyes from Sjogren's syndrome can lead to itching or burning, which leads to increased blinking. It usually starts in people between the ages of 40 and 60 and is much more common in women than men.

Allergies and infections

Allergies can also increase the frequency of blinking. Pollen, mites, makeup are some allergens that can cause an allergic reaction. When exposed, the body sometimes reacts by releasing histamine into the eye.

This causes the blood vessels in the eye to dilate and enlarge. This can make your eyes red and irritated, causing stinging. They can be diluted with water and inflated.

Tourette syndrome

Frequent blinking can also be a motor tic associated with Tourette syndrome. In the UK, the condition is thought to affect around 1% of the population.

Motor tics are sudden, uncontrolled movements, such as excessive or repetitive blinking. The cause of Tourette syndrome is unknown, but it is thought to be related to problems with a part of the brain called the basal ganglia.
