Make no mistake, here's why you shouldn't drink water when you eat sweets

Written by SOT.COM.AL 29 Mars 2023

After a salty meal we usually want enough water to quench our thirst.
But something similar happens most of the time when we consume something sweet, such as a chocolate or a pastry. And for this there is an explanation, even a scientific one. Why does sugar make us thirsty?
When we consume sugar, it first goes to the stomach and then passes into the blood, explains Caroline Apovian, a professor in the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition at Boston University. Once it enters the blood, it raises glucose (sugar) levels and the cells release water to restore balance in the blood composition.
As the cells lose water, the brain receives the "signal" and warns us to increase our body's hydration levels, intensifying the desire for water.
