A healthy diet and avoiding a poor lifestyle are two factors that help fight aging. In terms of nutrition, vegetables are a food category with a high content of nutrients that we can include in our diet to help fight aging.
Eatthis.com asked nutritionists which vegetables are best to eat to slow aging, and below you'll see what they said.
Whether raw or cooked, carrots are packed with nutrients, some of which may help fight inflammation.
"Carrots are packed with beta-carotene, a carotenoid that the body uses to form vitamin A, and vitamin A can support bone and skin health, especially as we age," says Lauren Manaker, a nutritionist. "Vitamin A also has anti-inflammatory benefits."
According to the Journal of Functional Foods, carrots can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body, which can lead to a boost in the immune system.
Peppers are a versatile vegetable that can be eaten cooked or raw. And according to nutritionists, they are also useful for managing inflammation to slow aging.
"Pepper are rich in vitamin C and vitamin A, which are natural antioxidants. They are also high in fiber and water, making them hydrating vegetables. Their high levels of antioxidants also make them anti-inflammatory, meaning they can help reduce inflammation in the body,” Dana Ellis Hunnes, nutritionist and author of Recipes for Survival, tells eatthis.com.
People have different opinions about potatoes because they are a high carbohydrate vegetable. However, they are packed with beneficial nutrients that can slow down aging.
“Potatoes are a nutrient-dense food that is rich in fiber, potassium, vitamin C and can fight free radicals. White potatoes can reduce inflammation, cholesterol and blood pressure in the body," explains nutritionist Veronica Rouse.
Looking at some of these nutrients found in potatoes in particular, they have been found to help reduce inflammation and pain, especially in those with rheumatoid arthritis. Higher levels of dietary fiber have also been linked to reduced inflammation in the body.
