Do you get out of breath when you climb the stairs? The cardiologist explains if it has to do with any health problem

Written by SOT.COM.AL 1 Shkurt 2023

According to a cardiologist, if you also get short of breath when you climb the stairs, it has absolutely nothing to do with how "fit" you are. "The medical term for this is dyspnea," says Satjit Bhusri, cardiologist.
This phenomenon, he adds, occurs when your heart "works in tension", when you are exercising your muscles in difficult activities, such as walking on a slope, writes Well & Good.
The muscles are demanding more oxygen supply and the heart is trying to meet that demand. To restore balance, the body does things like speed up your heart rate, or make you breathe faster.
According to coach Cristian Plascencia there are several different reasons why this could happen.
"Maybe you haven't eaten enough or you're malnourished, maybe you've had a tough workout cycle, or maybe your heart is having a hard time being able to pump more blood and oxygen throughout your body as you climb the stairs."
In other words, if you're not doing stair climbing training in your daily workouts, it's no wonder you feel out of breath when you climb the fourth floor.
Some tips for when you need to climb the stairs of the gym, or those of the home, office, etc.:
Start with walking, walking and gradually increase the difficulty.
Breathing through your nose during low-intensity activities can help keep your heart rate relatively low and also help your body become more efficient at breathing and using oxygen.
