Do you suspect the first signs of diabetes? Find out how it can be prevented

Do you suspect the first signs of diabetes? Find out how it can be prevented

Diabetes is a disease that can affect any age. Doctors say that type 1 diabetes occurs in about 10-15 percent of people with diabetes. It is caused by a total lack of insulin production. Patients with type 1 diabetes cannot live without insulin, so this type of diabetes is called insulin-dependent.

Type 2 diabetes is much more common. It is found in about 90 percent of diabetes cases. In this type of diabetes, we do not produce insulin in the right amount or at the right time. This type of diabetes does not require treatment with insulin, but requires the "unblocking" of the body's insulin by factors that prevent it from acting, such as overweight, obesity.

Gestational diabetes

Type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. It occurs in 2%-5% of pregnant women and may progress or disappear after delivery. Gestational diabetes is completely curable but requires medical supervision during pregnancy. About 20%-50% of affected women develop type 2 diabetes or have a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Pregnant women should always check blood sugar levels, especially if there is a diabetic in the family.

Initial signs

The signs of diabetes are: Increased thirst, i.e. drinking large amounts of water, frequent and large amounts of urination day and night, dry mouth, increased appetite but accompanied by weight loss, more tired than usual, stomach pain, blurred vision, marked lack of concentration, numbness of the hands or feet, various wounds that hardly close, various infections. It should never be forgotten that in most cases, type 2 diabetes may not show any signs at all, it may remain silent for years, and only when the diabetes disease has progressed, a series of clinical signs appear, which are typical and greatly facilitate its detection and diagnosis.

Concerns during diabetes

Diabetes gives complications: Diabetes is one of the few diseases that manages to silently and slowly damage almost all the main organs of the body without exception and especially the blood vessels, creating dramatic and tragic accidents, if it is not kept under control. Diabetes causes complications both in small blood vessels, in capillaries and very small arteries, but also causes atherosclerotic complications in large blood vessels. Diabetes causes complications in the eyes, feet, heart, kidneys and brain, if the blood sugar levels are not kept close to normal diabetes values. The older the diabetes, the more years the patient has had hyperglycemia, the higher its level, i.e. the more disordered the diabetes, the more frequent, more widespread and more severe will be these damages.

Preventing

Performing regular blood sugar checks, once a year if you belong to the risk group, while other people perform the test once every 3 years. Regular control of blood pressure. Keeping weight under control. Carrying out physical activity, 30 min at least on 5 days of the week. Reducing the intake of fats in food, especially animal fats. The use of foods rich in fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, etc. Avoiding the use of tobacco and alcohol.
