Two symptoms that indicate we may be facing a stroke and how to prevent it

Slurred and sudden speech and articulation are two typical symptoms of a stroke.

Sudden muscle weakness in the arms or legs, numbness or loss of sensation in half of the body, sudden dizziness, unsteadiness, blurred vision, and in some cases a sudden and extremely severe headache are additional symptoms that may signal a ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke.

What is the first step we take if we suspect a stroke?

The only correct reaction is the immediate transfer of the patient without any delay to the nearest hospital with adequate staff and equipment, which ensures rapid diagnostic investigation and therapeutic intervention.

Any stroke should be treated as an extremely urgent incident, as is the case, for example, in cases of myocardial infarction.

Can we prevent stroke?

As important as accurate and early recognition of the symptoms of a stroke and therapeutic intervention as soon as possible are, even more and perhaps more important is prevention!

Monitoring and regulation of blood pressure, control of sugar and cholesterol levels, smoking cessation, regular physical exercise and weight loss are the most important steps in this direction. Detection of atrial fibrillation in the elderly and appropriate anticoagulation can also prevent serious strokes.

In any case, regular medical monitoring and continued taking of the right medication are absolutely necessary. Correct communication and cooperation between the patient and the doctor are the guarantee for the best possible prevention.
