Millions of believers around the world start fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan, while there are many others who want to keep it, but fear for their health, as they suffer from certain diseases.
For this reason, many of them "flood" towards search engines to direct questions about whether they can fast, especially patients who have heart disease.
"Can heart patients fast? Do I have concerns if I fast? How should I use my medication while fasting?
These are the categories that are most at risk if they fast:
Those who have had a heart attack in the past year;
Those who have complaints about heart diseases that cannot yet be controlled;
Drug users;
Those who use many drugs and have heart failure;
Patients with uncontrolled hypertension;
People using blood thinners because of prosthetic heart valves or an increased risk of stroke.
Fasting is not recommended for these people without consulting a doctor. If you are fasting, you should pay attention to two main issues. You should avoid sudden meals and large amounts of food during iftar.
The most suitable menu for you will be light and Mediterranean dishes. After a long hunger, you should stay away from fatty foods and avoid fast food. It is the most suitable method for people with heart disease to eat little by little and often dividing them between iftar and sahur.
HOW SHOULD THE WATER CONSUMPTION BE?
If your fasting is approved by the doctor, the daily consumption of water should be at least 2 liters, unless there are additional conditions. This amount should be taken by dividing it between iftar and sahur.
In particular, patients with hypertension and known cardiovascular disease under drug therapy should be extra sensitive in this regard.
If you have had a heart machine in the last year, you may take blood thinners to avoid vein problems. In this case, fasting would not be right.
However, if the period has passed 1 year, you can fast by consulting your doctor. In this case, you should definitely get approval from your doctor. Fasting without approval is never recommended.
