But Gianluca did not like to imagine the path of treatment of the disease as a struggle. The tumor had become his "traveling companion", he called it so as not to increase the already very strong feeling of despair. He never hid his fear of death and after all, the truly brave are not those without fear, but those who have the strength to accept and overcome it.

He has always remained faithful to these principles, so much so that in March he said: "I also understand that the concept of death is used to understand and appreciate life. The anxiety of not being able to finish all the things I want to do, being super excited about all the projects I have, is something I feel bad about."

It all started in 2017. But several months passed before Vialli made his health condition public. For a while he managed to hide it, wearing a sweater under his shirt to look fit. Eight months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiotherapy had opened a deep groove, causing him to lose over 15 kilograms.

A period that served him to accept a complicated state, composed of many subtle mechanisms. Above all, the pain of those who know they are causing the suffering of their loved ones, so much so that they feel guilty about an illness for which they are obviously not responsible.
