Vucic becomes "regretful", Varhelyi's emergency meeting in Belgrade changes his mind for December 6, Serbia is expected to participate in the EU summit in Tirana

The President of Serbia has apparently become "regretful" after the statement about his non-participation in the EU Summit with the Western Balkans that was expected to be held in Tirana on December 6. Yesterday he reversed his decision by implying that he may be present alongside Prime Minister Rama in Tirana. As it seems, the meeting he had with the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhley in Belgrade, has caused him to reconsider this issue once again, after Varhelyi insisted that Vucic should be present at the Tirana Summit. At first, he refused to participate after the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, appointed the politician Nenad Rashi? to the post of Minister for Communities and Returns, which was held by the resigned chairman of the Serbian List, Goran Raki?. He accused Kurti of terror against the Kosovo Serbs. Vucic informed Varhely yesterday that he will make a final decision at the weekend. "We are at a crossroads, the enlargement process is attracting attention, but we are seeing great geopolitical instability in our continent. This is the reason why we are holding a summit next week in Tirana, where the leaders will go to discuss the issues of the region. That's why we need Serbia at the Tirana summit table", said the senior European official.

Serbia to support the sanctions imposed against Russia

The EU commissioner also asked Serbia to help the European Union to implement the sanctions imposed against Russia, sanctions which Serbia has not supported. The European Union has approved several packages of sanctions against Russia for the war started in Ukraine. However, Serbia, a candidate country for membership in the European bloc, has not joined the EU, not imposing sanctions on Moscow. "We need Serbia to be on our side. I understand Vu?i?'s message that he will help us implement the sanctions to end the war", said Varhelyi. Vucic said at the joint media conference that he understands Varhely's message for harmonization of Serbia's foreign policy with that of the EU. "We understand very well Varhely's statements, which he made as a friend, for harmonization of foreign policy", Vucic added. "No one can avoid sanctions against Russia through the territory of Serbia, because we do not deal with crime and we do not get rich from anyone's suffering during the war", said Vucic.

Ndërsa në lidhje me anëtarësimin e Serbisë në BE, zyrtari i BE është shprehur pozitiv në lidhje me ecurinë e procesit të anëtarësimit të Serbisë. “Mungojnë ende dy hapa, por sipas bisedës që zhvilluam  kam një bindje të fortë se gjithçka do të ndodhe shpejt.  Vitin e kaluar Serbia ka hedhur hapa të rëndësishme në lidhje  me zbatimin e ligjit në vend, por ka akoma  punë për të bërë në lidhje më strategjinë  dhe lirinë e medias në këtë vend, ne duam të marrim mesazhe të qarta dhe bindëse”, është shprehur ai.

Migracioni ilegal, kërcënim për Serbinë

Një çështje tjetër që u fol në këtë takim ishte dhe migracioni ilegal. Varhely përmendi se migrimi ilegal po na kthen në vitin 2015 dhe ky fakt është një kërcënim jo vetëm për Serbinë por për të gjithë Ballkanin Perëndimor. “Askush nuk mund të luftoje me këtë problem i vetëm ndaj dhe ne po forcojmë mbështetjen  tonë për mbrojtjen e kufijve  për të ndaluar migrimin ilegal veçanërisht në kufirin e Maqedonisë së Veriut  ku do të ofrojmë roje kufitare dhe pajisje shtesë”, ka thënë ai. Në prani të presidentit serb dhe komisionerit evropian, në Beograd janë nënshkruar tri marrëveshje ndërmjet Serbisë dhe Bashkimit Evropian. Marrëveshja për mbështetjen e BE-së për Serbinë në menaxhimin e emigracionit, forcimin e sistemit të menaxhimit të migracionit dhe kontrollit të kufirit u nënshkrua nga Ziofre dhe ushtruesja e detyrës së shefit të Zyrës së Organizatës Ndërkombëtare për Migrim, Donatela Bradiç.
