He was criticized for not sanctioning Russia, Vucic 'slapped' the EU, here is the decision he made

He was criticized for not sanctioning Russia, Vucic 'slapped' the EU,

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has reacted to the statement of the head of the EU's foreign policy and security, Josep Borrell, that Serbia is the only country in Europe that claims membership, but refuses to harmonize its foreign policy with that of bloc by consistently refusing to impose sanctions on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.

Vu?i? stated that such a decision not to receive sanctions is because Serbia conducts its policy as an independent country.

"I have never sworn to anything different, as long as we can follow such a policy, we will continue to do so," he said.

Almost two weeks ago, during the meeting he had in Belgrade with the EU envoy for the implementation of sanctions, David O'Sullivan, Vucic underlined that "although Serbia has not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation, as a reliable partner, it will not leave room for this to be used for illegal actions, which would enable third countries to avoid the EU's restrictive measures regime”.

He also said that Serbia is "committed to cooperation with the EU in the field of foreign policy, security and defense, with full respect for international law and the obligations arising from the SAA and the Negotiating Framework".
O'Sullivan's visit came after the European Commission had meanwhile sent its latest proposal for sanctions against Russia to the bloc's member countries, where punitive measures were also proposed against third countries that deliberately bypass EU sanctions.
