At least 46 people, most of them tourists from northern Macedonia, have lost their lives after a bus collided and caught fire on a highway in western Bulgaria.
According to local officials, the incident happened today around 02:00 on a highway 40 kilometers south of the capital Sofia.
The head of the country's disaster control service, Nikolay Nikolov, told the media that "45 or 46 people died" in the accident while 7 passengers were rescued and evacuated to a hospital in the capital.
The cause of the accident at this stage has not yet been determined.
According to the BTV channel, there were 12 children in the vehicle, which had arrived from Istanbul and left for Skopje.
"This is a tragedy. We do not know if all the victims are from Northern Macedonia, but we assume that it is because the bus is registered in the country ", said the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zaev in an interview for Nova TV.
