50-year-old Emanuele Bonafede (cousin of Andrea Bonafede who gave his identity to Messina Denaros) and his wife Lorena Lanceri, 48, were captured by the carabinieri.

The couple is accused of hosting Matteo Messina Denaro in their home until the day before he was arrested.

According to the Italian prosecutor's office, they helped the godfather of Cosa Nostra to keep in touch with other people, "especially with loved ones".

The investigators also accuse the couple of giving unconditional help to Matteo Messina Denaro.

After the arrest of the mafia boss on January 16, Bonafede and Lanceri went to the police claiming that they had met him by chance in 2018 and he had introduced himself as "Francesco Salsi", and had even visited their house several times. They stated that only after his arrest, they discovered that he was the mafia boss who had been wanted for 30 years.

But two months of investigation were enough to discover that the couple had lied. On city security cameras and on the movements of the Giulietta car used by Messina Denaro during his travels, it was revealed that the mobster in the last weeks before his arrest had gone to the couple's house almost every day, often at mealtimes, and every time he went out, Bonafede or Lanceri looked down the street to make sure no one was watching or spying. All movements are recorded by cameras.

According to the prosecution, these circumstances show that "Emanuele Bonafede and Lorena Lanceri were fully aware of the true identity of the person who frequented their house and helped him avoid police investigations.

Also "Lancer also relayed information between the fugitive and persons with whom he had particularly close relations."

One of them was Laura Bonafede, the daughter of Nardo Bonafede, the mafia boss of the Campobello district who died in custody in November 2020.

Laura Bonafede was photographed in the market together with Matteo Messiba Denaro two days before his arrest.

In a letter she sent him, Laura speaks in code and addresses herself in the masculine gender. She uses code names where Giulietta calls his vehicle Margot, while Lorena calls Lancer the nickname "Contractor".

Më 6 janar i dërgoi një letër tjetër: “Duke kaluar aty pashë Margot dhe kjo më gëzoi shumë sepse në këto 6 ditë nuk dija më çfarë të mendoja. Ndjeva pak xhelozi, mund ta kuptoni edhe pse. Unë nuk mund të marr pjesë në asgjë dhe të tjerët munden, por kjo është në rregull, të paktën e di që po lëvizni, që mund të dilni me Margot».

Gjithashtu në një letër tjetër që Lorena i ka dërguar Messina Denaro ajo zbulon ndjeniat për bossin e mafies.

“E bukura e jetës sime ishte që të takova, sikur fati më bëri një dhuratë. Ajo dhuratë je ti (e shkruar me te kuqe) Mendoj se çdo femër qe te ka pranë ndihet veçantë. Me ty ndihem i mbrojtur, ti më bën të ndihem mirë, më bën të buzëqesh me batutat e tua dhe e adhuroj ironinë tënde, njohuritë dhe inteligjencën tënde të pamasë. Mendoj se dikush atje lart donte që të takoheshim për çdo të keqe që kisha kaluar për shkak të poshtërimit. Të të njihja ty ishte privilegj dhe më vjen keq për ata që nuk mundën. E di, të dua dhe siç them gjithmonë një e mirë që vjen nga brenda”, shkruan ajo, me pseudonimin Diletta.

Nga biseda me disa pacientë që trajtoheshin në klinikën La Maddalena në Palermo, Messina Denaro i kishte treguar njërit prej tyre për lidhjen romantike me “Diletta-n”, që hetuesit e identifikuar si Lorenca Lanceri.
