Vucic refuses to meet with Kurti, visits troops stationed near the border with Kosovo.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has declared through a post on Instagram that he will not go to Bratislava, stating that "it is more important for him to be with his people".

Furthermore, he announced two requests for the QUINT states in relation to the situation in the north. The departure of the Kosovo Special Unit and the departure of the new presidents are Vucic's two demands.

EU sources mentioned Bratislava as a possible meeting place between the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

They said that there is nothing confirmed, but that they are working on it. Currently, a security meeting is being held in Bratislava and Kurti and Vucic have been invited.

Kurti's cabinet told REL earlier that his visit to Bratislava was planned, but was postponed due to the developments in the north of Kosovo.

Through the post on Instagram, Vucic also said that he will visit the deployed Serbian soldiers in positions near the border with Kosovo.

Vucic has given the order to increase the combat readiness of the Serbian army and to deploy troops closer to the border, after the Government of Kosovo, last week, installed new Albanian mayors in the Serbian-majority municipalities in the north of the country.

This action has provoked protests in the north of Kosovo.

Since May 26, the situation in the north of Kosovo has been tense, as Serbian citizens started protests against the Albanian mayors of the Serbian-majority municipalities Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.

30 soldiers of the KFOR peacekeeping forces were injured during the clash with groups of Serbian protesters. In the north of Kosovo, there are also injured among the protesters, but the exact number is not yet known.
