Unprovoked violent attacks against KFOR forces and the press are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. We express our full support for KFOR and wish a speedy recovery for the injured soldiers. De-escalating the situation is key at this point. The dialogue mediated by the EU is the path towards the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and mutual recognition that will ensure lasting stability in our region.

What is happening in the north of Kosovo?

Serbian citizens have tried again to block municipal facilities and prevent the entry of new Albanian mayors. The Kosovo Police and KFOR surrounded the official buildings while the situation escalated as they fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Due to the rekindling of tensions, it has been announced that schools in the north of Kosovo will be closed and classes will be temporarily suspended. For the recent developments in the north, there have been numerous reactions from the United States of America and the European Union, who asked not to escalate the situation as this does not help the dialogue process between the two countries.
