The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has confirmed that Kosovo is ready to hold new elections in the north of the country, reports Radio Evropa e Lire. This statement comes after the request made today by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"I said that we are ready to consider this possibility", Osmani said. "They asked Kosovo to find a way to hold new elections in the north that would give Serbian citizens the opportunity to participate and elect presidents with greater legitimacy," Osmani added.
Osmani emphasized that the organization of new elections is allowed by the legal regulation of Kosovo and this can be done through a petition that can be initiated by the Serbian citizens of the northern municipalities.
"This means that Serbian citizens, that is, about 20 percent of them who are on the voting list, can sign a petition and through it can initiate the process of new elections. We are ready to follow the law", President Osmani declared, among other things.
