Kosovo-Serbia tensions, the EU comes out with the immediate move, the latest announcement towards Vur?i? and Kurti becomes clear

Written by SOT.COM.AL 18 Nëntor 2022

The spokesperson of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Peter Stano, has said that the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, have been invited to "soon" go to Brussels to find a solution for the illegal Serbian license plates. .
He did not give any date, but said that the meeting should take place "very, very soon" and that the purpose of the meeting is "to find a European solution".
"We have urgently invited both parties to Brussels to find a European solution, a European solution to the current situation, which is among the most serious since 2013, and this is the goal - to have them in Brussels to discuss with the solution. I hope that they will be able to come very soon, and they will discuss, as the chief diplomat of the EU, Josep Borell, has said, before November 21 and not later".
Neither the Government of Kosovo, nor the Presidency of Serbia, have confirmed whether they will be part of the meeting.
Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia have increased since the Government of Kosovo started on November 1 the implementation of its plan for the re-registration of cars with illegal Serbian license plates.
These cars circulate mainly in the north of Kosovo, where the majority population is Serbian and largely controlled by official Belgrade.
The EU spokesman, Peter Stano, did not want to comment on media reports in the region that "a solution has already been reached", but only said that "meetings between EU officials and representatives of the parties are ongoing".
Kurti also confirmed the development of the negotiations on November 18.
He said that the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, is in constant communication with Brussels to resolve the license plate issue.
According to him, in the coming days it will be seen whether the new negotiations will succeed.
The government of Kosovo wants all cars to be re-registered with RKS, or Republic of Kosovo, plates, but Serbia opposes, insisting on plates neutral to the status of Kosovo.
As a result of the increased tensions, the northern Serbs have abandoned the institutions of Kosovo.
Although Kosovo declares that this agreement should include mutual recognition, Serbia does not accept, insisting on a "compromise solution"./REL/
