After Mitsotakis, Tsipras also refuses the mandate to form the government

After Mitsotakis, Tsipras also refuses the mandate to form the government

Greece is expected to hold new parliamentary elections on June 25, after last Sunday's election process, although it won the "New Democracy" of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, did not give him the majority to form the government, according to Protothema .

In Greece, a party must obtain a majority of at least 151 seats in the Assembly, out of 300 in total, to form the new government. Mitsotakis himself refused to create a coalition government and yesterday communicated to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou that the conditions are not there to govern the country, asking to speed up the procedures to go to the elections again on June 25.

After the prime minister, the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, addressed the Presidential Palace today, to reject the mandate that allows him to create a coalition government, even though many believed in his cooperation with PASOK and other opposition parties to remove Mitsotakis. from power.

"As you know, the conditions have not been created to form a government. That's why I responded to my institutional obligation and tell you that I will not take the mandate", he said to the Greek President.

Meanwhile, on his way out of the presidential palace, Tsipras declared that the election result is painful, both for SYRIZA and for Greek society.

He apologized to the people who were hurt by the result and at the same time said that he takes full responsibility for the low percentage of votes that his party managed to get.

"I apologize and take full responsibility for the result of the elections", he said.

After Tsipras, the baton of the mandate to form the government will be taken by the head of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, who is also expected to immediately reject it, leading Greece to new elections.
