Borrell does not stop, makes another strong appeal to Kurti: Stop the police operations around the municipal buildings in the north
Written by SOT.COM.AL 30 Maj 2023
The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that Kosovo should suspend police operations around municipal buildings in the north of the state, as "the first step to reduce tensions, while the violent protesters stop".
"I want to say that the EU strongly condemns the violence in the north of Kosovo that we have seen in recent days. Acts of violence against citizens, media, law enforcement and KFOR are unacceptable. We as the EU stand behind NATO and KFOR in fulfilling the mandate in the interest of peace and stability in Kosovo", said Borrell on May 30.
He said that this morning he spoke with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, while on Monday evening he also had a conversation with the President of Serbia, Aleksadër Vucic, and invited them to "quiet the situation immediately and unconditionally".
"Any other unilateral step must be avoided. As a first step, I expect Kosovo to suspend police operations related to municipal buildings in northern Kosovo, and violent protesters to stop. We will continue to engage with the two leaders" to stop the protests, Borrell said.
