"We do not give Kosovo"/ Protests in Belgrade 'explode', the Serbian opposition fills the squares against the European proposal

"We do not give Kosovo"/ Protests in Belgrade 'explode', the

Under the slogan "No capitulation" and the calls "Kosovo is Serbia", a protest was held in Belgrade, Serbia on March 17 against the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

A group of masked people, some of whom were wearing clothes with symbols of the Russian paramilitary formation, Wagner, held a sign that read: "The people and the church in defense of the state, against treason, this is the only solution."

The protest was held a day before the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, meet in Ohrid, North Macedonia, to discuss the implementation plan of the European proposal for the normalization of relations.

Several thousand people, at the invitation of the right-wing parliamentary parties, gathered in front of the Saint Sava Church, from where they continued the march towards the Presidency of Serbia.

Protesters chanted various slogans such as "We will not give Kosovo, "Kosovo is Serbia" as speakers addressed the crowd in front of the monument of Russian Tsar Nicholas II, which is located in front of the Serbian Presidency building.

Protesters also chanted "Serbia, Russia, we don't need the European bloc" and "Serbia, Russia".

The protest was called by the right-wing parliamentary parties, Dverni, Zavetnici and the NADA coalition.

Protesters waved Serbian flags and chanted slogans against the European Union and said that "The association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is a farce." They also sang this nationalist song about Kosovo.

The main demand of the protesters was the rejection of the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

"Today, we have a single message, to protect the homeland, without party symbols, everyone is welcome," said Milica Gjurjevic-Stamenkovsi, head of the right-wing Zavetnici party.

The protesters have also asked the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to resign and to hold elections at all levels of power.

Right-wing parliamentary groups have 34 out of 250 seats in the Serbian Parliament.

The proposal includes the commitment of the parties to respect all the agreements reached so far in the dialogue for the normalization of relations, as well as their commitment not to hinder each other in the integration processes.

Serbia insists that Prishtina form the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, while Kosovo demands that the final agreement include mutual recognition.

The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia for the normalization of relations started in 2011. The European Union mediates this process, while the United States, although it is not a party to the dialogue, supports it./ REL
