Politics flares up in Belgrade, the extraordinary elections in Serbia are seen as Vucic's scheme to divert attention, their main deadline is 3 months, but the final date depends on an important decision

Politics flares up in Belgrade, the extraordinary elections in Serbia are seen

Politics in Belgrade is heated. The Serbian media write that after numerous calculations and speculations about when the early elections will be held, the Government sees them as a card to get out of the crisis, while the opposition on the other hand says: first the fulfillment of the demands, then the discussion about going to the elections. "We are ready to negotiate with those who are ready to hold some city and municipal elections, but not others. We are always ready to reach an agreement, but it is not a matter of the will of any party member, but of all party members, and it is certainly not the place where the minority will overcome the majority", said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. The government sees special elections as one of the options to get out of the current political crisis. "I leave the president's office to make such a decision,

Elections, distraction?

The opposition, says expert Vladimir Pejic, has reached out, but there is no place to talk about the elections until the clearly defined demands of the protest are met. They say that mentioning the elections at this moment is just an attempt to distract the public. "Fulfill the demands of the protest, then we will talk about how the reality will be in Serbia and the elections and everything else that can be a topic. First, meet the demands of the protest, because everything else that would be talked about is useless now, this is also shown by this Assembly, where instead of talking about the reasons, insults are thrown in the most flagrant way possible", he said. Nebojsha Zelenovic from the "Left and Green Coalition". The question arises, how much would the elections really solve the political crisis? "It is certain that President Vu?i? wants to relax the atmosphere and cushion the protests a little bit, and the elections are a way to somehow fulfill the conditions of the opposition, but not in the way they would like. I think that both of them should find the right measure, stay consistent and on the other hand, not be someone who is not inclined to any kind of compromise and bear the consequences of any negative scenario in the country", says Vladimir Peji?.

What does the law say?

1. Resignation of the prime minister. 2. A term of one month for the second representative 3. Announcing the elections. 4. Election campaign from 45 to 60 days. 5. Going to the polls. This means that the elections would have to be held no later than three months after the resignation of the prime minister. In this sequence, at the moment the step that starts the whole mechanism is not known, specifically: when the prime minister can resign. "The fact that the prime minister has not resigned now shows that the president still wants to wait, to talk, for something to be resolved before he decides to call the elections," says analyst Bojan Klaçar. The SNS will not have a mandate. The President then explained in detail the procedure leading to the announcement of elections. "She resigns, I, as president, have the obligation that within a month I offer the mandate to someone to form the government and if it happens that there is no majority in the Assembly and SNS will not want a new mandate because we are satisfied with Ana Brnabi?'s work, which means that when a month passes, we have constitutional deadline for elections," he said. Klaçar says that from the moment the elections are announced, the campaign begins, which can last at least 45 and at most 60 days. Regarding the possible date of the elections, Vucic says he is ready for an agreement. "When a month expires, we have constitutional deadlines for holding new elections. In accordance with this, we are ready to agree on the date of new elections and whether they should be held with other elections with those who wish to have some city or municipal elections, but not any other", emphasizes Vucic.
