NATO shows its "muscles" to Moscow, warns of military intervention if the stability of Kosovo is threatened, Stoltenberg puts a "red line" on the Russian-Serbian axis
Written by Bleona Kolaj 11 Gusht 2022
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has again warned the Russian-Serbian axis, stating that the alliance is ready and will not allow the escalation of the conflict with Kosovo. Stoltenberg has made it clear that if Serbia provokes, NATO forces will intervene immediately. He said that NATO will never give up promoting stability, security and cooperation in the region. Stoltenberg was also asked about Russian influence in the Western Balkans, for which he said that NATO has called on Russia to play a constructive role, but Russia has done exactly the opposite. This message has been clear to Vladimir Putin, who, using Vucic as a 'cushion', is looking for unrest and bloodshed in the region, starting with Kosovo. There have not been few positions that have been taken in favor of this idea, immediately after the situation in the north of Kosovo became tense where there was a clash with weapons. The head of NATO has called on Russia to stop Russian aggression and fully respect international law.
The Secretary General of NATO has stated that they will continue to promote stability, security and cooperation in the region, including the daily efforts of KFOR
"We welcome the allies' offers for the deployment of NATO facilities. Our experts have to look at all such offers and then give advice depending on the military conditions. The new Strategic Concept of NATO, which was approved at the Madrid Summit, once again confirmed the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for our alliance. NATO will continue to promote stability, security and cooperation in the region, including the daily efforts of KFOR, our headquarters in Sarajevo and the office in Belgrade. Security and stability in the Western Balkans is important for NATO and for peace and stability in Europe," Stoltenberg told the media.
Fear of harming the long-term stability of Kosovo
Asked if he was concerned about Kosovo's long-term stability, Stoltenberg said he had discussed with the leadership of Pristina and Belgrade about the tensions in the north and added that both sides should remain calm, avoid unilateral actions and engage constructively. in the dialogue mediated by the EU. "In accordance with its UN mandate, the KFOR mission is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to intervene if Kosovo's stability is threatened," he said. In this context, Stoltenberg stressed that security and stability in the Western Balkans is important for NATO and for peace and stability in Europe. He also emphasized once again the importance of the KFOR mission in Kosovo. "In accordance with its UN mandate, the KFOR mission is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to intervene if stability is threatened. Our mission is dedicated to guaranteeing a safe environment for all people in Kosovo", said the head of NATO.
