Northern Macedonia, opposition demands early parliamentary elections after no-confidence motion against government fails

Northern Macedonia, opposition demands early parliamentary elections after

The Macedonian political arena has been busy for two days, while the opposition awaited the change of the parliamentary majority, while the majority continues to declare that this is not the right time for the country to go through a political crisis. Following the expiration of the deadline at 00:01 on Friday for the vote of no confidence in the government due to the lack of a quorum of signatories, the opposition has demanded early parliamentary elections. VMRO-DPMNE MP Aleksandar Nikolovski stated at a press conference that the country needs early parliamentary elections. According to him, the opposition currently has 60 deputies while the government has only 59 deputies and 1 deputy has been kidnapped. Allegations regarding the abduction of an MP refer to the MP of the Besa Movement, Kastriot Rexhepi, who "disappeared" throughout Thursday and appeared only on Friday. The opposition believes that he was forced not to attend Thursday's session and that to achieve this, he was forced or threatened. The opposition blames the government and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev for such an act. "Today in Macedonia a deputy was kidnapped, today in Macedonia we saw how the regime is transformed into the most criminal regime in Europe and for this there will be responsibility much faster than they think. Deputies were deprived of their phones so as not to communicate with others. "It seems that the criminal regime is trying at all costs to stay in power and this will not happen for long and from here I have a clear message that the quickest and easiest solution to get out of this political crisis are early parliamentary elections," he said. Nikolovski. Another VMRO-DPMNE MP, Dragan Kovacki, sees early elections as the only solution to the political crisis. "Yesterday Zaev had to kidnap an MP for a certain period just to extend his mandate and the possibility of theft. "With undemocratic means, pressure has been put on the opposition deputies who signed a petition for the overthrow of Zaev's government", said Kovacki. For more than 10 hours, MP Kastriot Rexhepi has not been accessible to the public, party members and family members. "Some media reported that he was at the headquarters of a ruling party all the time," he said. SDSM reaction

Meanwhile, the ruling party SDSM has also stated on the request for early elections. SDSM spokeswoman Bogdanka Kuzeska said there was no concealment after the snap general elections. "Now is not the time for elections, it is the time for responsibility because we are facing many challenges such as the energy crisis, the life crisis, the pandemic, the continuation of the road to the EU, but it is the time for responsibility and it is not the time for elections. "There will be talks with Democratic MPs as well as with all democratic forces to continue the path with the progress of the state", said Kuzeska. A reaction on the continuation of the parliamentary majority in the Assembly was made by SDSM through an official statement distributed to the media, which states that the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Mr. Mickoski must appear before the citizens and apologize and take responsibility for the lies told in public. "For days, Mickoski lied to the public that there are 61 votes for a new majority in the assembly and votes of no confidence in the government. "Yesterday these lies were seen from the beginning of the session in the Assembly", say from SDSM referring to the accusations for the kidnapping of the deputy Rexhepi. According to them, Mickoski yesterday spread untruths about the kidnapping of MPs and he publicly said that he was threatened by the opposition. The statement said that because of the desire for power, Mickoski sat at the same table with anti-NATO and anti-EU structures, parties that are against the concept of a society for all. "For this latest failure, Mikocski should not seek an alibi and take responsibility for someone, it is his fault." say from this party. Following the recent events, the Secretary General of the Besa Movement and the Minister of Agriculture, Arjanit Hoxha has resigned. "Due to the violation of democracy in the local elections, a part of this government, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of DUI, violated democracy in the country with manipulative methods that continued yesterday, which was the most shameful day for democracy. of the country, I resign from the position of minister together with the two deputy ministers ", said Hoxha.
