The population census in Montenegro, according to analysts, has turned into a political issue between the biggest political groups, pro-Montenegro and pro-Serb. Analysts point out that the census, which is expected to be held from November 30 to December 15, could overturn the national population structure in the small Balkan state of Montenegro.

The population census in Montenegro has surpassed statistical significance and turned into a political issue, analysts say.

This, according to them, is a consequence of constant frictions about the national structure of the population.

Analyst Hajrullah Hajdari points out that in European countries, records of religious and national affiliation are not required during the population census process.

"The population registration or census in developed countries such as in Europe or America, notes on religious and national affiliation are not required at all. Whereas in Montenegro this is inherited. From 1945 to 2011, religious and national affiliation have been the elements of the census,"  said Mr. Hajdari.

Meanwhile, the analyst Nail Draga estimates that the registration that will be held from November 30 to December 15 has taken on the dimensions of extreme polarization.

"The population census has taken on the dimensions of political polarization and such a phenomenon is not a surprise considering that we have a change of power in Montenegro. The published results from the Second World War until now the population with Montenegrin affiliation has been dominant, but all the chances are that in this census changes will occur in terms of the national structure of the population", said Mr. Draga  .

Analysts do not exclude the possibility that recent phenomena in Montenegrin society may affect the results of the population census.

Mr. Draga estimates that " it is not a surprise that in this census the Montenegrin population will drop to a significant percentage, while the opposite will be the case with citizens of Serbian nationality".

The analyst Hajdari also thinks that  "in these political circumstances we have a competition between the two communities that dominate in Montenegro" .

According to analysts, this phenomenon may negatively affect the process of membership of Montenegro in the EU, when it is known that even in the report of the European Commission it was emphasized that the census of the population and housing requires careful management by the authorities, especially when it comes to issues of sensitive related to ethnicity, religion and language. / Wow
