European leaders meet again in Brussels on December 13, what is expected from the next EU-Western Balkans summit
Written by SOT.COM.AL 16 Nëntor 2023
About a year after the European leaders gathered in Tirana, on December 6, they will meet in Brussels, on December 13, according to the announcement of the EU on the official website. This summit precedes the summit of the European Council, which will take place on 14 and 15 December 2023 in the Europa building in Brussels. However, details are not yet known, nor is the agenda of this summit, which will surely be revealed in a few days. Two days ago, an EU-Western Balkans ministerial meeting was held in Brussels, which brought together EU foreign ministers and their counterparts from the Western Balkans. This meeting was chaired by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell. Borrell underlined the importance of unity and strong cooperation with Western Balkan partners to build resilience and promote peace and stability on the continent. In this context, he recalled that the European Union relies on candidate countries as reliable partners in foreign, security and defense policy, including when it comes to alignment with EU decisions in these areas. We remind you that December 6, 2022 marked a historic date in Tirana, where for the first time in a country of the Western Balkans the EU summit took place and the Albanian capital became the reception center for all the leaders of Europe and the Region. It was Prime Minister Edi Rama himself, who personally received all the leaders one by one, as they addressed the meeting hall for the EU-Western Balkans summit. During this summit, the agreement on Roaming was also signed, which provides for lower tariffs for the citizens of the Balkans and the EU in the respective countries, while the implementation will start from October 1, 2023.
