Here's why Vucic is horrified by the decision to arrest Vladimir Putin and how the West can force the Serbian president to turn his back on his friend by imposing sanctions

The political elite, because of its radical and quasi-socialist ideology, lives in an illusion and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, perceives the President of Russia as a great and important politician and now finds it even more difficult to impose sanctions to Russia and will be under even greater pressure, interviewees told Danas, commenting on why the International Criminal Court's decision to issue a warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin was very difficult for Vucic. The Serbian president, immediately after receiving the news of the court's decision against Putin, ordered the meeting of the Bureau for the Coordination of Security Services, as reported by the media. It is even said that he had to sit down when he learned the news. "I almost collapsed when I was told the news."

Under pressure for sanctions

Vucic also stated that the West will put pressure on all those who have not turned harder against Russia, and that those who support Putin will suffer severe consequences. "When I say this, I am aware of the situation we will face," said Vucic. According to him, we are not far from the outbreak of the Third World War. People's Party MP Vladeta Jankovic said it is now even more difficult for Vucic to impose sanctions on Russia because the public would rightly perceive it as backstabbing a friend in trouble.

Blow for Serbian politics

Political analyst Dragomir Angjelkovic believes that the West can now demand more from Serbia to impose sanctions against Russia, but he points out that the Serbian public will still resist. "The latest accusation against Putin has reminded the Serbian society that none of the generals and NATO politicians did not bear responsibility for the aggression against Serbia. This also significantly limits Vucic's room for maneuver. This is the reason why he was very affected by the decision of the aforementioned court, which was directed against the Russian Federation", Angjelkovic declares. He adds that the Serbian president is sending a message to his electorate, which is pro-Russian, showing that he is just as unhappy as they are. "However, he obviously understands that it is difficult to convince the majority of citizens to accept a policy that is against their beliefs regarding Kosovo, NATO, Russia, the so-called 'Hague Justice,'" says Angjelkovic. According to him, the president is obviously increasingly afraid that he too will be exposed to some actions of the West if he does not show submission.
