Hungary is becoming the "new Russia", Belgrade media reveals the behind-the-scenes of the close relationship, here's how Orban is helping Vu?i? deceive the Serbs

Hungary is becoming the "new Russia", Belgrade media reveals the

Among the great Serbian partners and friends in the world, recently, according to members of the government, Hungary has stood out as one of the biggest, and the friendship between Viktor Orbán and Aleksandar Vu?i? is brought to the fore as the key to good relations between the two countries. As the Serbian media "Danas" writes, after the vote on the Resolution on Srebrenica, President Vu?i? highlighted the Hungarian delegation that voted against the proposal of the United Nations General Assembly and appreciated it as a feeling of true and sincere friendship between these two countries. . After returning to Serbia, President Vu?i? expressed great gratitude to the Hungarian Prime Minister, recounting an anecdote about their phone call before the vote, when, according to the President, Orban was moved by his words that "he will stand alone against Europe". , and at the last moment decided to support his Serbian friends by voting against the Resolution. On this occasion, the President of Serbia announced that he will erect a monument to the Hungarian Prime Minister in Serbia as a sign of gratitude and eternal testimony of the great friendship between the two countries and the two leaders. However, according to "Dana", the question arises whether Hungary is really a friend of Serbia or it only presents itself that way because of interests.

Connections with Hungary

Aleksandër Ivkovic, journalist of the European Western Balkans portal, emphasizes that what we are witnessing in recent years is actually the rapprochement of two leaders who have common interests and that it has nothing to do with the bilateral relations between the two countries. He points out that the reason for this is that the policies they lead take them away from Europe and they use each other for the sake of legitimacy both internationally and domestically. "Both try to maintain a certain room for maneuver in foreign policy, closer ties with Russia and China, but not so close as to significantly threaten relations with the West, as well as dampen criticism that comes at the expense of their way. of governance, mainly from Brussels. Since both of these goals threaten to distance them politically from other capitals in Europe, Orban and Vucic serve to mutually legitimize each other both internationally and domestically," says our interlocutor. Ivkovic emphasizes that the main consequences of this relationship are in fact Hungary's support in the matter of European integration without insisting on fulfilling the criteria, as well as opposition to Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe and the Resolution on Srebrenica.

Deceiving the Serbs

Political analyst Dragomir Angjelkovic says that Vucic does not oppose Brussels and Washington in this way and gets "free points" in Serbia, and that on the other hand Orban does the same, confirming his role as an opponent of the Euro-Atlantic power centers. In short, Vucic is deceiving the Serbs, and Orbani is helping him in this, for which he is not guilty. He has no obligation to us and sees that many here accept to be deceived by the regime. If Vucic's behavior was a national responsibility, maybe we would have real support from Orban, but that doesn't mean it would actually be like that," says Angjelkovic.

"Shopping"

The interlocutor of "Danas" emphasizes that Orbán first of all stands in defense of Hungary's interests and that it is debatable whether he would hold a grudge against the West to support Serbia, as well as that many times so far he has shown great flexibility so he "tightens the rope" on various issues and opposes them, until "there is a possibility that his country will receive some benefit". "When we consider this, erecting Obran's monument makes sense if it is part of the composition, of which Vucic's monument is a part. This would be a monument to quasi-patriotic manipulations. Whatever he has done in his country, Orban contributes to deceiving the citizens of Serbia instead of helping to protect our national interests," Angjelkovic concludes. As a reminder, Hungary takes the presidency of the European Union from July 1.
