The former prime minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, has stated that the left party, PASOK, is to blame for the deep defeat of the opposition in the May 21 parliamentary elections.

According to the Greek media , Tsipras made the comments through a statement, where he said that PASOK officials celebrated the "collapse" of SYRIZA, at a time when Noe Demokracia was celebrating a deep victory.

"At the time of a historic electoral victory of the right, they celebrated more than New Democracy sympathizers for the fall of SYRIZA," Tsipras said.

Tsipras said left-wing progressive forces did not respond to his SYRIZA party's hand-out for cooperation during the pre-election period.

At the same time, he has sent a message that he does not intend to give up the battle, in view of the second vote.

"Here I am," he said characteristically. "In the next elections, we have the responsibility to prevent the prospect of an uncontrollable prime minister in power," the SYRIZA chairman said in his statement.

"I have learned to take responsibility in difficult times. And not to give up the fight. I'm here. I will not give up even now, even in the midst of a difficult battle. Yesterday was election day. The progressive forces, to whom we turned for cooperation throughout the pre-election period, had a front almost exclusively against SYRIZA.
