What happened? Russia is expelled from Serbia, the unusual reason is revealed:

Russian citizen Elena Koposova has received a decision from the police, according to which she must leave Serbia within 30 days.

The assessment of the Security Information Agency (BIA) is that Elena, who is a literary translator, represents an "unacceptable security risk".

"I am staying legally and I plan to get Serbian citizenship in order to work for the welfare of Serbia and the welfare of my family," Koposova told Danas.

She believes the reason for her deportation is her signature on an anti-war letter from February 2022 regarding the war in Ukraine.

"Bombs should not fall on people's heads. Therefore I have put my signature. That is the only reason. Earlier, in the case of other Russians who took this or a similar solution, the same reason was given, since they too were anti-war activists, although I was not. But I think the reasons are the same - those signatures," she explains.

Koposova says that she has less than two months left in Serbia, including the deadline to leave the country, as well as the possible complaint she can make.

"I want the reason for the exclusion to be clarified."

The lawyers said that this provision, ie. that I pose a risk to national security, came from the BIA, and that this settlement is classified as secret. "Lawyers have had such an experience during the handling of several such cases in the month of August", emphasizes Koposova.

She emphasizes that her expulsion is Russia's pressure on the BIA, "because Russia does not want the anti-war position to spread to other countries."

"That's the only reason. I don't think I'm a national security risk for the Government of Serbia if they don't want war to happen. Russia is waging a war and some people will not want to speak out against it. All the Russians I know and have talked to are scared for me and my family. They know us as peaceful people who will not do anything bad either in Serbia or in Russia", Koposova emphasizes.

She explains that she came to Serbia in 2019.

"I have been staying in Serbia continuously for four years. We have traveled to Serbia before. We are not rich people, we had properties in Russia that we sold and invested to start a new life, to have some kind of income, like all other citizens of Serbia, and to provide for our children that they are now six and 14 years old. years old. "All this was planned based on the conditions that Serbia requires from people who come here to live and who will have legal residence", explains Koposova.

She reiterates that the deportation decision was not grounded and that she does not pose a risk to Serbia's national security in any sense.

"This decision is a real disaster for our family. We have invested a lot in life in Serbia. Now we have to sell everything urgently and we will probably never get the money we invested. In other countries we do not have such conditions that we can meet. Only Serbia offers these welcome conditions for residence. We don't know where to go and what to do. The eldest child must complete primary education and pass the final exam in June. The youngest child is in preschool and should enter first grade in September. We have no hope. I know I haven't done anything wrong," says Kopasova.

She tells Danas that the eviction decision was made only for her.
