The special envoy of the United States of America (USA) for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, warned that there is a risk of Russian interference in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro. In an interview for the MINA agency, Escobar said that this danger has always existed even in the elections in the USA.

"You can be sure that they will try to use all differences and all methods to try to divert Montenegro from its European path. Therefore, yes, I worry about the elections not only in Montenegro but also in the region", said Escobar.

He said that on the other hand the citizens of Montenegro have made the right choice.

"Every time the citizens had to make a choice, they chose the only real path before Montenegro - Euro-Atlantic integration," added Escobar.

He emphasized that he is therefore convinced that the citizens of Montenegro, when they choose the government, know how to identify such misinformation and make decisions that are in line with their values ??and aspirations. According to him, the USA clearly states that it does not choose the governments of NATO allies, but that it has its own expectations.

"As you know, whoever keeps Montenegro on its European course, whoever remains committed to Montenegro's obligations from NATO membership and who is an ally in the fight against corruption can expect the support of the USA" , Escobar said.
