Alexis Tsipras more determined than ever: I will not give up the fight, I will stay here

Alexis Tsipras took responsibility for the election result in a statement to the media after the meeting of the SYRIZA Executive Office. As the party chairman emphasized, he will not give up the battle and will lead for the second elections. His aim is to prevent the transformation of Kyriakos Mitsotakis into an "uncontrollable ruling prime minister".

"The progressive forces to which we extended the hand of cooperation, throughout the pre-election period, had a front almost exclusively against SYRIZA", said Alexis Tsipras, among others. "SYRIZA is and will remain here", emphasized Tsipras, concluding his statement.

"In the next election we have the responsibility to prevent the prospect of an uncontrollable ruling prime minister. I learned in difficult times to take responsibility, and not to give up the fight. I'm here. I will not give up now or in the midst of a difficult battle. Yesterday was election day. Today is the first day of the next election battle. In yesterday's elections, ND won, but at the same time the strategy of simple proportionality was defeated. The progressive forces, to whom we turned for cooperation throughout the pre-election period, had a front almost exclusively against SYRIZA. And yesterday, at the time of a historic electoral victory for the right, they celebrated more than the New Democrats for the drop in SYRIZA's percentages. In the next election we have a primary responsibility to prevent the prospect of an overbearing and uncontrollable prime minister. But let's protect the leading presence of the left in the political life of the country, as an uncompromising force. Coming from far and will go far, SYRIZA is here and will stay.
