"320 cases of cancer registered in two months", doctors raise the alarm: A greater number than in previous years, the disease with advanced stages

320 new cancer cases were registered during January and February this year in Kosovo, the director of Oncology, Ilir Kurtishi, announced.

Kurtishi said that compared to the same period last year, the number of cases has increased by over 10 percent. While breast cancer continues to dominate in women, it is lung cancer in men.

Kurtishi announced that the number of new cancer cases is increasing, adding that it is expected that the renovations of this clinic will be completed at the beginning of May.

"The year 2024 for January-February in the Oncology Clinic, 320 patients with different types of cancer were registered, breast cancer still dominates as last year and is a larger number than in previous years and the same number of men is dominated by breast cancer. lungs, while right after these two groups are colon tumors and malignant tumors of the female genital organs. Age still dominates over 50 years, so the number of patients is over 50 years old, what is problematic in Kosovo and continues to be is that we have cases under the age of 50 where the disease is in advanced stages and when patients are notified late to receive it adequate treatment", stated Kurtishi.

He indicated that at the beginning of May, the works at the Oncology Clinic are expected to be completed, saying that there will be an expansion of capacities, including the doubling of the number of beds.

"According to the foreman, he is about to complete his work in record time, faster than planned and the clinic according to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, so according to the project leaders, it will be ready at the beginning of May and we are in the process of supplying the clinic or the equipment with inventory or other follow-up parts and I think that as soon as these equipment are brought, these component parts of the clinic or inventory will be a very good clinic with new spaces and we have doubled the capacities of the clinic so from 45 beds, we will have about 100 beds with which patients will receive oncology services during 24 hours and this will make the work much easier, especially for the clinic staff, but at the same time it will be more suitable for receiving therapy for patients as well", he said . he continued.
