About 46,000 citizens of Kukes Municipality have started going to the ballot boxes today to elect the new local leader, after the dismissal of Safet Gjic, involved in a sexual scandal.
The ballot boxes were opened at 07:00 in the morning, while the voting process is expected to close at around 19:00.
After the SP candidate for Kukës municipality, Albert Halilajt, also the candidate of the 'Bashke Fitomje' coalition, Emri Vata, went to the ballot box to cast his vote.
In a short statement to the media after the vote, Vata called on the people of Kuksi to come out and vote, while he stressed that the opposition camp will report any irregularities and attempts to influence the voters.
"Today is a marked day, a holy day for Kukës and for his future. I invite all residents to turn to the boxes en masse to express their free will and democratically. Until now, we have identified all kinds of problems that are attempted to undermine the will, which will be presented after they are documented.
