The legal deadline for submitting the names of candidates and municipal councilors for the May 14 local elections has arrived.

In the Central Election Commission this Monday, the submission of the list of names of the Socialist Party and the coalition between Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta is expected.

Socialists have decided to re-candidate in these municipalities with the 44 current mayors and 17 new names who will join Edi Rama's team.

As the names of the candidates for mayors were approved on Saturday evening by the Presidency, the final touches are being given to the list for the municipal councils at the party headquarters.

While Sali Berisha, who is competing in these elections with the "Bashke Fitomje" coalition, was the first to finalize the mayoral candidates through the primary process at the beginning of December.

The presidency of the DP also approved the candidates for the municipal councils, where out of 1664 members, the Freedom Party will have 240 councilors, Vangjel Dule 20 and the Christian Democrat Nard Ndoka with 6 councilors on the lists.

While Rama and Berisha already have their names ready, the opposite is happening with the "Alibeaj" group, which will officially represent the Democratic Party in the elections, after the decision of the CEC.

The chairmanship of the Democratic Party led by Enkelejd Alibeaj has nominated Roland Bejko for the Municipality of Tirana. Candidates for the other municipalities, where the Alibeaj grouping will compete, are also expected to be appointed.

Alibeaj's grouping must make a decision as soon as possible, as today is the deadline for registration in the Central Election Commission of candidates for mayors and councilors.
