Tabaku meets the German ambassador: The fight against corruption must be a national priority

The President of the European Affairs Commission, Jorida Tabaku, received the new ambassador of Germany, Karl Bergner, in a meeting today.

The very good bilateral relations between the countries were at the center of the meeting, while Tabaku appreciated the role of Germany in relation to Albania's Euro-Atlantic processes.

She emphasized the continuous contribution of the Bundestag to the improvement of the quality of the Albanian Parliament, especially the Integration process.

In their conversation, Tabaku emphasized the importance of the new law that has been approved on the role of the Assembly in the integration process. This law is modeled on the practices of the Bundestag and has brought significant improvements, including the increased participation of civil society.

The President of the National Integration Council, Mrs. Tabaku emphasized that the integration process is a national issue and should include all interested parties. She also expressed the concerns of civil society regarding the lack of public consultation by the government regarding this process. In addition, she expressed her concerns regarding the way the government is handling this process and the lack of a general and open approach, leaving out the opposition and civil society.

Regarding the fight against corruption and organized crime, the deputy of the Democratic Party expressed her full support for SPAK and brought to the ambassador's attention the unjustifiable political protection that has been given to suspects and those investigated by SPAK for years and the pressure that has been constantly exerted on this structure.

Tabaku also spoke about the importance of political consensus in the justice reform process and mentioned the Democratic Party's contribution to the adoption of the law for the operation of SPAK. She pointed out that such a thing regarding constitutional bodies and vital reforms should serve as an example that political consensus should be a key factor in the processes of subsequent reforms.

Në fund, Tabaku  solli në vëmendjen e ambasadorit “Paketen Antikorrupsion” të prezantuar nga ajo nisur nga puna në Komisionin Hetimor për inceneratorët, ku shpjegoi që qëllimi i ndryshimeve të propozuara në paketë janë që të forcojnë zbatimin e vullnetit të parlamentit dhe pakicës parlamentare, për të rritur kontrollin, llogaridhënien por atë çfarë është më e rëndësishme për të rritur përgjegjësinë finale të atyre që do të mbajnë përgjegjësi për shpërdorimin e fondeve publike.

Gjatë takimit, u diskutuan edhe shqetësime të tjera, përfshirë dështimin e reformës elektorale, rrjedhjen e të dhënave në sistemin TIMS, dhe hetimin nga OLAF për fondet e IPARD.

Regarding the Summit for the Berlin Process that will be held on October 16, Tabaku expressed the need for the government to use this summit and the process as an opportunity to benefit from projects and investments to accelerate economic development and utilize the full potential by not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
