"It makes the life of all Albanians more difficult", Tabaku in 'Kushtetuese' against taxation for free professions: We will continue coordination with all other institutions

"It makes the life of all Albanians more difficult", Tabaku in

The deputy of the DP, Jorida Tabaku, stated that the taxation of free professions makes the lives of citizens more expensive. From the Constitutional Court, where she appeared after the date on the calendar was for the submission of other arguments in relation to the lawsuit filed by the DP group against the tax, she stated that businesses in the country are being closed and some of them are being moved outside of Albania

"A part of the businesses of independent professionals are closing, a part of them are leaving Albania. For this reason, we will continue the collection of information, we will simultaneously continue presenting the facts in coordination with all the other institutions that have brought lawsuits to the Constitutional Court",  said Tabaku.

She emphasized that "the tax is unfair" and that it affected not only freelancers, but a chain of services.

"So I believe that the GJK will stand up in defense of the public interest, the public good, the implementation of the Constitution, but at the same time and the fact that today we are at a key point, a turning point of trust in the institutions",  said Tabaku.

Jorida Tabaku:  Some of the businesses of freelancers are closing, some of them are leaving Albania. For this reason, we will continue the collection of information, we will simultaneously continue the presentation of facts in coordination with all other institutions that have brought lawsuits to the Constitutional Court, with accountants, with auditors, with notaries, with lawyers and with all freelancers who have joined our cause.

Today we are in the conditions of violation of legal security, today we are in the conditions of violation of the Constitution and today we are in the conditions of a tax that goes to 30-40% for free professions, the highest tax in the Republic of Albania. We have spoken many times about the unfair system that has been raised, but this time this unfair tax is affecting not only freelancers but a chain of services because while we are talking about all services, starting from services for the economy, from accountants, notaries , pharmacists, health services have a price chain increase that directly affects the consumer. So I believe that the GJK will stand up in defense of the public interest, the public good, the implementation of the Constitution, but at the same time and the fact that today we are at a turning point, a turning point of trust in institutions.

I have called on the independent professionals to be part of the discussions with us during this period, we have called on the institutions to provide us with information and I believe that we are at a moment where their appearance before the Constitutional Court will serve the session of the 18 June. I want to give a message to all the independent professionals who have written to us and contacted us, I want to tell you that the DP parliamentary group will be here to protect their interest, to protect the interest of the citizens, today they are not a minority but a majority . it is true that today the Government works only for the minority, but we will protect the interest of the majority.

The IMF has supported the government regarding the tax on freelancers, what do you have to say?

Jorida Tabaku:  I generally don't want to comment on the statements of internationals, but I believe that the IMF had it due to the fact that today there are many exceptions from the system, today there are 5-star hotels that are exempt, the removal of exceptions should start from those who burden the state budget a lot.

In this case, we are not asking for any selective policy, we are asking that the free professions be treated like all other businesses, according to turnover, and I believe that the IMF has no objection to this. In this case, the Albanian Government should correct the exemptions from the oil excise tax, from favoritism in the field of tourism, for the infrastructure tax for big business.

These are exceptions that damage the state budget, not the free professions. If there are no questions, I want to thank you for the media interest in this matter. Maybe it's a little technical, but there was tremendous interest, thank you for covering it, and at the same time I want to thank all the legal advisers of the DP parliamentary group who did an outstanding job with the arguments. Thank you!
