Albania takes the leadership of the UN Security Council, the new Foreign Minister heads to New York

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, is on his way to New York, where he will participate in high-level meetings within the framework of the Albanian Presidency of the Security Council and the High-Level Week of the 78th Session of UN General Assembly.

On Thursday, September 14, Minister Hasani will preside over the High Level Open Debate on Promoting Public-Private Partnerships in dealing with humanitarian issues, an initiative of Albania.

On September 20, the Albanian chief diplomat will participate in the High Level meeting of the Security Council on Ukraine, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

During his stay in New York, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs will meet with counterparts from member countries of the Security Council and will participate in meetings focusing on the Western Balkans, peace and security, etc.

The Albanian delegation to the UN is headed by the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, and part of it are the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani.

Albania, for the first time in the history of its membership in the UN, has since January 2022 held the seat of a non-permanent member of the SC, whose two-year mandate ends in December of this year.
