The Ambassador of the United States of America in Tirana, Yuri Kim has issued another message of support for the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha. The latter has been at the center of attacks and accusations by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, attacks that have increased greatly after the expulsion of the Democratic parliamentary group and the central structures of the DP. But it seems that in the battle against Berisha, Basha has the Americans on his side.
Excerpts from the interview
Meanwhile, public opinion has also heard of lobbying in the United States, etc. More anti-American actions in terms of American principles, has never been done by any leader in Albania, maybe even in the Balkans. You declare yourself a trusted partner today. Have you forgiven these actions Mr. Basha? Can we say you forgave him?
Ambassador Kim: First of all, you posted a lot of comments there and you included a lot of your opinions so let me clarify. Without responding to your editorial comment on the nature of our relationship with Mr. Basha or our assessment of Mr. Basha's performance, I will just say this: The DP is extremely important. Mr. Basha remains the elected leader of the DP. We believe in relationships with institutions. Institutions are critical to democracy. We will continue to meet with the elected leader of the DP and, in our experience, we have had a good partnership with Mr. Basha, and this will continue.
