USA calls on Albanian justice to start investigations against Sali Berisha, almost another "non grata black list" with names of corrupt politicians

Written by Rigels Seliman 2 Dhjetor 2022

The United States of America seems determined to dismantle and punish anyone who is involved in affairs, corruption, crime and undermining democracy and who seek to destabilize the Balkan region and not only, a clear and direct message that goes to former - Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who has been declared "non grata" by the United States of America, but also for other "VIP" characters who have been sanctioned by Washington. The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Gabriel Escobar, yesterday issued strong statements regarding the nationalist parties in the Balkans, as he revealed that the US "is issuing another blacklist" of "non grata" persons, who mainly they are politicians and rulers, or former officials, involved in violence, in Albania or in other countries of the region. Speaking in an interview for "Voice of America", diplomat Escobar revealed that the United States will continue efforts for democracy and the fight against corruption in the region, including sanctions from Washington. "Corruption is the biggest problem for the region. Nationalism and ethnic rivalry is really just a mask for this (corruption). It is very clear that all the most nationalist parties in the region are also the most corrupt", he declared. This statement by Mr. Escobar shows that the US has sanctions ready for other corrupt politicians and rulers who are in the Balkans, including Albania. Escobar appeals to justice to investigate the corrupt
But despite the readiness to eradicate corruption, by declaring "non grata" anyone involved in the affair, the United States of America has demanded that the law enforcement authorities of the Balkan countries also be included in this battle, to bring to justice anyone who has violated the law, as they are those whom the US Department of State has declared "non grata". Decisive and clear in what he articulated, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Gabriel Escobar, emphasized that only external actions are not enough to hold corrupt actors accountable. This is a clear message for Albanian justice, which has closed its eyes and is not investigating former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, declared "non grata" by DASH, because he was involved in major corruption. So, the bells are ringing for Berisha, who is already trembling with anxiety, since the days are numbered, where he must give an account before the justice, according to the accusations that weigh on him. "Leaders must take action, they must remove these people from positions of responsibility, they must remove these people from party lists and this applies to all countries in the region," he said, adding that the rest more long-term is "to put pressure on the leaders (of the countries) to make the reforms of the rule of law that are required to join the European Union", he said.
