Citizens made 2104 complaints about judges, ILD proposed 3 dismissals, 5 salary reductions and 1 public remark

Citizens filed 2,104 complaints for violations or abuses of duty by judges in the period 2017-2020. Their review was delayed and ended only this year, while the High Inspector of Justice has approved 34 disciplinary decisions, where it has investigated alleged violations against the activity of 58 judges. Nine of the investigations have ended with a request for disciplinary proceedings against 9 magistrate judges. The measures proposed by the High Inspector of Justice were "Dismissal from office", for 3 judges; "Temporary reduction of salary up to 40%" for 5 judges and for 1 judge the disciplinary measure "Public notice" was proposed. For these requests, the Supreme Judicial Council has partially accepted the request for dismissal from office for 1 judge, imposing a different disciplinary measure on him, while the other 2 cases have been closed without a decision. According to the ILD, for the 5 cases where a salary reduction was requested, the HCJ accepted 2 requests, while 3 proceedings were suspended due to the re-evaluation process. For a judge for whom the "Public Remarks" measure was requested, the HCJ imposed a suspension due to the re-evaluation process. The Office of the High Inspector of Justice announced that it is about a stock of 2104 complaints and documentary practices that were not handled, or partially reviewed by the previous bodies of the justice system. The review of the stock has highlighted the incomplete procedures followed by previous bodies such as KLD, for handling these complaints.
