The government returns to amnesty for weapons, the Deputy Minister of the Interior admits that the strategy for handing them over in 2017 failed, appeals to the media and civil society

The Albanian government is planning an initiative to hand over weapons without permission. This was touched upon as an issue by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari during a meeting organized by the representative branch of the OSCE in our country. The senior UK official admitted that such an attempt in 2017 failed, as the conditions for mass awareness of society were not created. According to him, the time has come for this issue to be treated with priority not only by the state, but also by the media and society. "Not only to approve another initiative, that is another amnesty. In the amnesty of 2017 we did not have as much as we could claim from a strategy, which is preceded by a very good work of community awareness in cooperation with every actor, including the media and civil society. A mass awareness of the risks must be presented," said Lamallari. Regarding the rank of "inspector" in the police ranks of newly graduated officers with no experience, Lamallari defended himself by saying that the issue of granting this rank was made according to the proposals of a joint working group and various reports. "Every proposal, suggestion and decision-making that was made was made as part of the product of the joint consultation. So there was a working group specifically for this purpose. The opinions of all structures were consulted, but also the opinions and evaluations of various reports especially those who assist the state police", concluded the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari.
