While January 31st is the deadline for registering political parties that want to run in the by-elections in six municipalities, the Re-Establishment Group in the Democratic Party has announced that it will select candidates through primaries.
In a skype connection in the news studio on MCN TV, the PD MP, Sorina Koti announced that this process is expected to start these days and the closing will take place on January 27 to find the best candidates for this election.
She said the competition will be internal, and under the new statute candidates have the opportunity to self-nominate, be nominated by the branch or by the re-establishment group.
"It is the first time that a political force implements the primary race. The announcement has been made public to the municipalities that will be in the race and the DP has started consultations in the branches, the process will start on January 23 and will end within a few days. The re-establishment group will also make public the names of candidates for municipalities. We have set as the date for the proposals to close on January 27th and the selection to be made before the registration date. We are set in motion to find the best candidates albeit in a short time and the conditions where we are. The race will be internal as the re-establishment commission has taken over the leadership of the party it will be a race which will take place in three ways, can be self-nominated, proposed by the branch or can be proposed by the re-establishment commission. After voting by the membership, which of the candidates will go further in the vote he will represent. "As for the logo and other technical issues, it is another legal battle for which we are in a legal battle," said Koti.
Asked if there could be room to join the SMI, or to support its candidates, Koti said the Re-establishment Commission and the SMI are in negotiations to go to the polls with a single candidate.
"To my knowledge, a broad coalition is being negotiated and with the SMI at the same time, it is an alliance which will go to a joint election. "So the re-establishment commission and the SMI are expected to put their candidates together and go to the polls with one candidate, this is the formula that is being negotiated, but we still do not have a correct answer, we are in consultations," she said.
