PD-SP open for changes in the system of local elections, the Electoral Reform Commission approves the program
Written by SOT.COM.AL 4 Tetor 2022
The Commission for Electoral Reform yesterday approved the work calendar, anticipating discussions on legal changes that may affect important aspects of the electoral system for local elections to be held within the first 6 months of next year. Likewise, socialist co-chairman Damian Gjiknuri said that the commission is open to discussing changes that may affect the Constitution, if there is a political consensus from the parties. "We are open to discuss anything related to the recommendations of the OSCE-ODIHR, but also for others that we parties agree on by consensus, that affect elements of the system, without affecting the Constitution, as it is not in the tax ours," he said. Gjiknuri added that discussions on the Constitution will be held if there is political agreement and further recommend to the Assembly the establishment of a special commission for constitutional changes. Meanwhile, the co-chairman from the opposition, Enkelejd Alibeaj, spoke about the need for changes in the electoral system for local elections. "It is right if there will be changes in the territorial reform commission that affect the system, we are obliged to make changes in the system. But even if this does not happen, we must discuss the electoral system regarding local elections", stated Alibeaj. While the representative of the Freedom Party, Petrit Vasili, requested that the commission not connect its work with the work of another parallel commission. "This is not a law reform commission just for local government," he said.
