Today, by order of SPAK, the former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, was arrested on charges of abuse of office.
The "Tod Trugu" palace in the center of Durrës is the building that became the reason for the arrest of the former mayor Vangjush Dako, and some other former officials of the municipality.
The Special Prosecutor's Office found violations in the construction permit granted 11 years ago during the management of the municipality by Vangjush Dako. He and several other former officials of the Department of Urbanism are accused of abuse of office and falsification of documents.
However, he is not the first of the socialist mayors (in office or left) to end up in handcuffs.
The former mayor of Lushnja, Fatos Tushe, was arrested in July 2021 by order of SPAK, on ??charges of corruption and abuse of office in relation to a tender of the Municipality of Lushnja.
In June 2022, it was the turn of the municipality of Vora. Former president Agim Kajmaku, who was arrested in Italy for drug trafficking.
He had hidden a conviction in Greece for counterfeiting money on the decriminalization form, which also led to his dismissal from the leadership of the municipality of Vora. After being elected as the head of the municipality on June 30, 2019, he was denounced by the DP for concealing the sentence. This accusation was confirmed by the prosecutor's office in Tirana, which received information from the Greek authorities.
Meanwhile, in March of this year, it was the former mayor of Bulqiza, Lefter Alla, who ended up behind bars. He was arrested together with 7 other people for abusing a tender worth about 3 million euros.
