In prison for stealing votes, the Greek interior minister meets Fredi Beleri

The Greek Minister of the Interior, Yannis Oikonomou, is in Durrës prison to meet Fredi Beleri. The visit of the Greek minister comes a day after the investigation was closed and the file was launched for trial. After a session that lasted over 4 hours, the court decided that Beleri should be tried on the charge of electoral corruption.

Pandeli Kokaveshi has also been charged in this case, who will be judged in a free state. During the preliminary session, Beler's lawyers asked for the dismissal of the case and not to take into account the collected evidence, considering it illegal. But this request of theirs was rejected by the court.

For the defense lawyers, the decision was expected because the case is also politically prejudiced. Also present at the session was the elected mayor of Himara, who considered his arrest political, while demanding a normal trial to face any evidence of the prosecution.

Fredi Beleri and Pandeli Kokaveshi were arrested 2 days before the local elections on May 14, after an investigation launched by the Prosecutor's Office of Vlora with suspicions that the electoral staff of the coalition candidate "Bashke Fitomje" was distributing money in exchange for votes.
