Ledia Sulaj: The role of Kitri in the premiere ballet "Don Quixote" with high technical interpretation, where you have to be fine and playful at the same time
Written by Julia Vrapi 23 Maj 2023
When only a few days separate us from the performance, Ledia Sulaj says that "Don Quixote" is not a typical romantic ballet. "A work that gives you many moments of humor and only smiles. It is not the typical romantic ballet. With tragedy or with the other world. We really need happy art grades and positivity," she says. The character of Kitri will be played on stage by the soloist Ledia Sulaj, but she says that it is a role of her dreams. It shows that you have to be super energetic for this role. "Fortunately, I have danced several roles of the classical world repertoire, and here comes the role of Kitri. For the first time I have the pleasure of playing this super virtuoso role and this dream role since childhood. Very fast with high technique. With very diverse interpretation and mimicry, where in three acts you have to be super energetic, musical and at the same time very fine and a little playful. In short, in the role you are involved 360 degrees in the whole work with the pearl music, with Spanish stylistics and with the Mediterranean temperament. I think it suits us, but the audience will also enjoy it, because they will feel it close to themselves", says Ledia Sulaj.
Ballet on stage
The premiere ballet "Don Quixote" will come to the stage of the National Theater of Opera and Ballet on the evenings of May 26, 27, 29 and 30 as a real artistic show, with a gallery of figures neatly made, to be as close as possible the original with the windmills, the "perfect" wife of an idealist and the emotions of true love. The adventures of Don Quixote, which will immerse you in the magical world of art, come with choreography by the European ballet icon, Giuseppe Picone, under the orchestral direction of the well-known Italian maestro, Jacopo Sipari, the costume design ideas of Dea Bejler and the professionalism of the director of the Alisa Gjoni troupe, accompanied by the TKOB Symphony Orchestra and followed by the soloists and the ballet troupe, collaborating closely with the students of the National Choreographic School. "If you want to experience the story of the legendary knight who bravely challenges the windmills, you should not miss this dignified performance", says the National Theater of Opera and Ballet about this work that will be four nights. Composer and violinist Ludvig Minkus (1826-1917) wrote several well-known ballets, almost all of them, especially the ballet "Don Quixote" are still performed all over the world today.
